A Good Pair of Training Shoes

Fortunately, not a lot of equipment is required for track and field. The most important piece of equipment needed is a GOOD pair of training/ running shoes. These shoes need to have good support, be relatively lightweight, and be comfortable. We recommend you purchase these shoes at a store that specializes in running shoes. The Westchester Road Runner store located in White Plains, NY offers a 10% discount to all of the White Plains Future Stars Track Club Members.

2. Racing Flats or spikes are recommended for those athletes 10 and up. In addition to being much lighter and providing good traction on slippery or muddy surfaces, there is a psychological advantage to wearing dedicated racing shoes for racing. Be aware that you will need to purchase the appropriate spikes for the appropriate surface as surface conditions vary.

3. Comfortable running shorts, t-shirt, and warm-ups are appropriate attire for practice.

4. The USA Track and Field (USATF) Youth Athletics Program is divided into age divisions:
8yrs under
9-10 years
11-12 years
13-14 years
15-16 years
17-18 years
All children are categorized by birth year and age the child turns by December 31 of the current year.
